Experienced ER overnight veterinary technician (RVT preferred)
TruVet Specialty and Emergency Hospital TruVet Specialty and Emergency Hospital Petaluma, CA Petaluma, CA Full-time Full-time $28 - $40 an hour $28 - $40 an hour Experienced Emergency Overnight Veterinary Technician (RVT preferred) Requirements Valid CA RVT license (preferred) Minimum 3 years as a technician (RVT license preferred) Minimum 2 years in emergency/critical care Has a strong foundation in emergency medicine Experience inducing anesthesia and monitoring for emergency surgeries Ability to calculate CRIs accurately and efficiently Ability to efficiently triage and prioritize cases Proficient in caring for and monitoring critical cases Proficient in placing and maintaining central lines Remains calm and professional during stressful or emotional situations Willing to mentor and train ER overnight techs will work closely with clients, DVMs, veterinary staff, and all other departments within the hospital.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Receive and admit ER patients Efficiently prioritized and complete inpatient medications and treatments Provide exceptional patient care Can induce and monitor anesthesia for critical patients:
dystocia, splenectomy, GDV, HBC, etc Knows how to monitor and nurse critical ICU cases:
post-op splenectomy, DKA, severe pancreatitis, HBC, severe liver/kidney failure, heart failure/oxygen dependent patients, etc Has advanced nursing skills:
calculate/run CRIs, set-up/start blood transfusions, run cross matches, maintain central lines, maintain NG tubes, maintain chest tubes, can calculate fluid additives, etc Provide updates to attending DVM on changes in patient's condition Understands hospital protocols and enforces them Advocate for their patient Can clearly identify behaviors associated with aggression, pain, anxiety Enter/edit inpatient charges Thoroughly round incoming day treatment nurses on admitted patients Communicate with owners and provide basic updates as needed Discharge patients and go over instructions and medication with owners Obtain diagnostics for DVMs:
rads, bloodwork, etc Ensure overnight hospital tasks are completed Provide clear and confident communication Communicate professionally and respectfully to clients and staff Assist in training other techs and TAs Lead by example and foster a positive work environment Holiday and weekend availability required Available full-time shifts (3, 12hr shifts or 4, 10hr shifts) $4/hr overnight technician differential Pay scale for technicians meeting these requirements:
